My Top 5 Fruits High in Vitamin C

My Top 5 Fruits High in Vitamin C

As the weather is turning and it's starting to get cooler, there's lots of coughs, colds and flus going around so it's very important that yourself and your kids are having a diet high in vitamin C to help support the immune system and get it ready for winter.

Here are 5 of my favourite fruits high in vitamin C and of course a perfect fit in the Smooshie bottle:

1. Kiwi fruit - just one medium sized kiwi fruit provides over 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. If your kids don't like the sour taste of the green kiwi fruit - give the gold variety a try, they're sweeter and creamier and delicious!

2. Strawberries - packed with vitamin C and 100g contains 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. Definitely a favourite amongst the kids!

3. Oranges - another great source of vitamin C. If you're kids are anything like mine, they often just suck out the juice when chopping into quarters, so I peel and chop oranges into bite sizes pieces, it means they kids eat the whole fruit, getting the fibre from the flesh and maximum nutrients.

* I deliberately made the base of the Smooshie Bottle leak proof so any juicy fruit stored in the base won't spill out.

4. Pineapple - a cup of pineapple contains 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. Also a favourite with the kids!

5. Mango - we don't consume a lot of fresh mango here in Queensland unless it's in season but we do use a lot of frozen mango, especially in Smoothies!

Here's one of our favourite Mango Smoothie Recipes:

GREEN MANGO SMOOTHIE (serves 1)

  • 1 cup mango
  • 1/2 a banana
  • 1/2 cup baby spinach leaves
  • 1/4 of an avocado
  • 200ml coconut water
